What Makes Brio #1
BRIO toys are "good" toys. Good toys are safe, durable and open-ended. Open-ended toys stimulate a child's creativity and imagination because they can be played with in many different ways over many years of a child's life. That makes owning a BRIO toy a very cost-effective proposition for parents because BRIO toys endure. They endure for two reasons: they are durable and they satisfy a child's changing play needs as he or she grows.

BRIO's mission, to add value to children's lives, illustrates the company's strong commitment to children and their safety. To fulfill this mission, BRIO believes young children need a supervised play environment and good toys. Brio defines a good toy as safe, durable, and open-ended, meaning a child can play with it in many different ways over the course of his/her childhood. To ensure every BRIO toy is safe and reliable, each one meets U.S. toy safety requirements.

Wood
BRIO wooden toys are made from beechwood and birch -- hard woods that make durable toys built for years of play. The wood is free of insecticides, toxic chemicals and flaws, such as knots and cracks. All wood is kiln-dried to retain its natural color and finish.

Paint
BRIO uses paint, not decals, for long-lasting color and detail. Toys are painted with non-toxic, brilliantly colored, high-gloss lacquer. Many of our famous BRIO Wooden Railway trains and accessories receive up to 60 coats of non-toxic paint to resist chipping and maintain their bright colors.

Warranty
BRIO warranties all manufacturing defects for as long as you own the toy.

Fun Fact: BRIO produces 9 million pieces of straight and curved railway track each year. That's roughly enough track to stretch from Chicago to New York.

Fun Fact: Each year, 3.5 million trains, cars and trucks roll off BRIO's assembly line - more than the total number of U.S. cars and trucks produced annually by the Ford Motor Company.

Fun Fact: BRIO vehicles use 14 million plastic wheels annually. That's more tires than the average U.S. tire production plant manufactures in a year.   TOP

Brio History
Once upon a time (okay, it was 1884), three young brothers (sons of Ivar) began making high quality wooden toys in the city of Osby, Sweden. BRIO Corporation got its name from those "BRothers Ivarsson of Osby." The brothers didn't know back in 1884 that the company they started would one day bring such joy to so many children. Today, BRIO is the #1 wooden toy company in the world.

A young man named Peter Reynolds began distributing BRIO toys in the United States in 1977 and believes more strongly than ever in his decision to do so. He continues to run the U.S. company today and has managed to "stay young" in the process! His words of wisdom for parents? "To play is to learn."

How did BRIO become the leading wooden toy company in the world? Read about how our toys are constructed; read about the safety, durability and open-ended nature of our toys. We welcome you to BRIO and hope your children will enjoy and learn from our toys for years and years!   TOP
